You might be thinking… he probably doesn’t even use an Apple.

Too true I must say.

It’s my choice though and what I have learned about them I’d like to share with you. My choice to stick with my PC is purely cost. My current computer is into its eighth year already. So lets get down to business.

Why choose an Apple?

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine a world without computer + Windows + bits and pieces. Apple computers are no different, except that this bundle is sold as one. The computer and operating system (Apple OS) are bundled together and sold by the same company. This means they have tighter control over the match of hardware and software.

That match has its ups and downs. Because of the limited hardware options available, everything is matched well. But Apple also chooses to specify fast hardware, to make the computing experience match the company’s reputation of great products. This does mean that there is very little saving to be done, and almost no shopping around necessary.

Performance

The actual hardware and speed are now similar to other notebook computers, but you won’t need to pay much attention to that.

In fact, the limited choice makes buying an Apple so easy. There are only a couple of notebook computers to choose from, just buy and use.

MacBook

Starting from $1000, all the Apple laptops are referred to as MacBooks. The MacBook is the most basic model and offers all the Apple performance at the most reasonable price. Upgrades can be made, but if you’re looking for something a little more powerful, then one of the other MacBook Models might be right for you.

The MacBook Air is touted as the next generation of MacBooks and boast a very slick looking aluminum casing. The prices are slightly higher than the standard MacBook. They come in 11-inch and 13-inch screen variations. The 13-inch model can support faster processors, while the smaller size of the 11-inch model limits it to a slower processor. The smaller model is almost as small as the biggest netbooks.

The MacBook Pro is for those looking for higher performance from their laptop. Primarily, laptops are meant to be portable, lugging around a big sucker is not much fun. But smaller models are mostly suitable if you are using the computer out and about. If you are just moving it from desk to desk, then the bigger sizes can also handle much faster hardware. 13, 15 and 17-inch models are available. The larger two use the new Intel i7 platform.

Mac

The Mac Mini is the cheapest and is just a small case with hardware and software installed. It does not include a monitor. It uses very little power and is a great upgrade if you want to reuse a lot of your PC parts.

The iMac is the premium desktop offering. It is a screen and computer in one (the computer parts are behind the screen). 21 and 27-inch models are available. The 27-inch model comes with two variations, one which has more powerful hardware as standard.

The Mac Pro is the granddaddy of power and performance. Starting at a slightly startling $2500, these desktop computers pack more power than most people could possibly need. You’ll also need the stunning 27-inch Apple monitor, which is not included in the 2.5K price tag.

LED Cinema Display

The 27-inch display really is beautiful. It’s probably essential if you plan to work on your MacBook for a long time, the larger screen is much easier to work with for long periods. However, a normal monitor could be fine too, and save a whole bunch of cash.

Summary

If you are adding old hardware then make sure there are Mac drivers for your hardware. Printers can be troublesome.

Most people who get a Mac or MacBook tend to get a whole host of Apple products. One of the huge selling points is how well the iPhone, iPad, and all the Apple computers link seemlessly to one another. Go check out Apple Computers at Amazon.
