Asus Eee PC 4g

The Asus Eee PC 4g from Asustek provides all the basics for an ultra mobile PC. The 4G utilizes the same cutomized version of Linux sported by the other models. The focus of this Netbook, is the ability to get online and use online applications, like browsing, messaging and online calls. Beyond this, only basic office-type applications are offered.

The Asus Eee 4G PC is the cheapest model to still feature a built-in camera. Take that anyway you like, but for not much extra, and seeing as the lightweight laptop is meant for online use, which now very often includes video, I’d say it’s definitely worth having.

Here are the major features of the Asus Eee PC 4G:

  • Intel Mobile CPU and chipset
  • 4.0 GB of solid state storage
  • 512 MB of DDR2 memory
  • Built-in camera, microphone and speakers
  • Windows/Linux operating system
  • White, pink, blue, green or black

The Asus Eee 4g PC notebook, like most of the rest of the Eee PC range, featues a mobile Intel CPU and chipset. The advantages of this chipset is that the power consumption is low, meaning more time on the computer before needing to recharge. The mobile components do suffer a little on the performance front. Some performance issues have been dealt with by utilizing newer processors like the Atom. The newer processors on the 8.9″ Eee PC notebooks benefit from having more processing power, but with reduced power consumption, due to more advanced designs and manufacturing technologies.

The 4 GB of storage is enough to hold the operating system, and some mp3s.  It is not enough for permanent storage, so you’ll need to use an external hard drive, online storage or a NAS (my personal choice) as more permanent storage places.

The Linux operating system would be my choice for Asus Eee 4G PC notebook. For a small laptop, the 512 MB might just be enough for Windows XP, but combined with a slower processor it might just become too slow for general operation. Sure it will work, but putting a full operating system, along with all the unnecessary bits and pieces, onto a small laptop which is meant to perform specific tasks only seems like overkill.

The biggest plus with these Asus Eee 4G PC notebook is that you can choose from a whole lot of colors. Sony’s line of notebooks comes to mind, and how they managed to market laptops that did not come in traditional gray. There are even custom covers available, besides the standard ones.
