Asus Eee PC 901
The “Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play” ultra portable laptop is a small laptop that weights in at under 1 kg (2.2 lbs), comes with a 8.9″ screen and only has solid state storage.
The Asus Eee PC 901 is aimed at making the computer easier to move around, more durable and more functional, with specific programs included to perform function like online phone calls, messaging emailing, office applications and web browsing.
The Asus Eee PC 901 packs a little more punch than the rest of the lineup.
The Asus Eee PC 901 has the following features:
- Intel Atom processor
- 20 GB SSD (12 GB with Windows option)
- 7.8 hours battery life
- 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity
- Bluetooth
- 1 GB of memory
- Built-in camera, speakers and microphone
The Intel Atom processor featured in the Asus Eee PC 901 is Intel’s latest processor aimed at the low-powered, budget market. The processor itself does what it should, and is aimed at doing well at the most important things for this kind of computer. Gaming is not on the cards.
The monitor is 8.9″ and aims to give just that little bit extra space to the desktop. Although the 7″ monitor on the Asus Eee PC 901’s little brothers is find, it is still quite cramped. The screen resolution on the 901 is 1024 x 600 which allows a document to be viewed in full size on the page, and also makes room for most webpages.
The Wi-Fi connection on the Asus Eee PC 901 is faster than that featured on the lower models in the range. 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity offers up to 300 MB/s as opposed to the fastest speed of 54 MB/s attainable on the other models.
The standard operating system is the custom version of Linux for the Eee PC range. The user interface has big icons under different tabs, giving access to all the standard programs. Installing new programs might be a little harder than expected on the Asus Eee PC 901, but it is possible to install your own operating system. You can always reinstall the original by downloading it from the Asus website.
The 20GB of memory consists of 4GB built-in, a little like the Asus Eee PC 4G and 4G Surf, but there is an extra 16GB from a flash disk. The 4GB should provide enough for all the programs you hope to run, and the 16GB gives a little more breathing room, making it easier to store larger files. Of course these disks also make the Asus Eee PC extremely durable because they don’t have the mechanical moving parts like the others do.
